The Overview
We chose the Hilton Riga for its proximity to key sites that we wanted to visit. The Black Heads building is literally steps from our hotel. Churches, cathedral, restaurants, shopping and other venues are literally all walking distance from here.
The Seven Senses Review
👂 Cadence — Sound (Score: 9/10)
Despite its location at the heart of Riga, the room was remarkably quite. We were in room 426 which featured a skylight and view of the church from our window.
✋ Unwind — Touch (Score: 7/10)
There were some key issues with our room.

First, the door room would not latch to the lock plate when the door closed. You had to push from the inside or pull from the outside to allow the bolt to “click” with the lock plate. We reported this and maintenance came out to fix it but this level of security breach should not happen.
Second, the temperature control knob in the shower was ultra sensitive. Turn the dial a micron too much to the left and you had scalding hot water, turn it a micron too much to the right and you were blasted with freezing water. The shower has a wand shower head which blasted all over the place and had a mind of its own as to where the water would jet out to during use.
Third, the pillows were flat and deflated. Folding the pillows offered no additional neck support.
Note: There is no business center at this hotel so if you need a place to take calls, do some light laptop work you will be stuck using your room’s desk and chair neither of which are comfortable for long term use.
👅 Palate — Taste (Score: N/A/10)
We did not have any meals at this hotel. Since we did not have status with Hilton, breakfast would be $25 per person or $50 per day. This score metric is not included in the overall scoring.
👃 Aroma — Smell (Score: 9/10)
Overall, the hotel did not have any bad odors, the bathroom did have a trace scent of mustiness and its likely because doesn’t appear to be any venting in this bathroom.

👁 Vista — Sight (Score: 10/10)
The angled skylight was pretty cool and unique. We did like the skylight and the black out curtains worked well to eliminate almost all light during sleep time. I would imagine it’s possible to watch Northern Lights during winter from the bed.
But every major site is within walking distance so this is THE hotel for your Vista itch.
🙏 Sanctuary — Spirit (Score: 7/10)
The staff was welcoming and helpful. The hotel clerk was kind enough to tell us about the washing/dryer machine on the 4th floor and gave us a laundry pod. There is a charge for laundry use of 4.50 euros.
The gym has very minimal equipment and had a very bad odor despite being empty when we stopped by to visit. There is no swimming pool at this hotel which is a shame because there seems to be so much wasted space at this hotel.
🧭 Wander — Instinct (Score: 9/10)
For a first time visit to Riga, this is probably one of the best hotels to stay in during your visit. If you are a repeat visitor, you’ll likely want to stay elsewhere closer to the area that offer you the most excitement during your last visit. We dinged one point for maintenance issues.
